✈️ Initial Situation

The traveler realized that his wallet was missing after traveling from Narita Airport Terminal 2 toward Tokyo.
The wallet contained almost everything he needed for the rest of his trip.
Inside were his passport, a travel document, ID, several credit cards, and cash.
From what he remembered, he had taken a train from Narita Airport Terminal 2 to Nippori, then transferred to another line toward Minami-Senju.
At some point along that route, the wallet disappeared.
Because his departure date was close, he needed to identify the location of the wallet as quickly as possible.

🔍 Step 1: Clarifying the Situation

The first thing we did was organize where and how the wallet was most likely lost.

What We Confirmed

We asked questions such as:
  • Whether the wallet had been in a pocket or in a bag just before it was lost
  • The wallet’s size and appearance
  • Whether he had stopped anywhere during the trip, such as a restroom or shop
  • The name shown on the passport and ID
  • Whether he had already contacted any airport, railway company, hotel, or police office
From his replies, we confirmed that:
  • The wallet had most likely been in his pocket
  • It was a black wallet and slightly larger in size
  • He had not made any special stops during the journey
  • The passport name matched the information he had provided in the inquiry
This made it much clearer which offices should be contacted first and how any matching wallet should be verified.

🕵️ Step 2: Contacting the Relevant Railway Lost & Found Offices

Once the route was clear, we began checking with the railway companies and lost & found offices connected to that journey.
Our service follows a success-based structure:
the investigation fee only applies once the item is actually located and a clear retrieval path can be provided.
In this case, because the wallet contained his passport and ID and the departure date was close, we needed to move quickly.

Who We Contacted

Based on the route he shared, we prioritized:
  • The railway company responsible for the section between Narita Airport Terminal 2 and Nippori
  • The railway company responsible for the later section toward Minami-Senju
  • The lost & found offices handling items found on those lines
All communication was handled in Japanese, and each matching record was carefully compared against the traveler’s description.

✅ Step 3: A Matching Wallet Is Found and Verified

After checking multiple records, we found a lost item that strongly matched the traveler’s wallet.
The details confirmed were:
  • A black long wallet
  • Containing a passport, travel-related documents, an ID card, and several cards
  • Being held on the railway route the traveler had used

How We Verified the Wallet

Because lost item photos are often not shared for privacy and security reasons, we verified the wallet using:
  • The name written on the passport and travel document
  • The types and number of cards inside
  • The combination of documents and other identifying details
At first, there was a small discrepancy regarding the number or type of documents inside.
However, by re-checking the details with both the traveler and the lost & found office, we were able to confirm that the wallet was indeed his.
Once everything matched, the traveler felt confident moving forward. “Yes we can proceed with the payment. We just paid :) Please send me location asap :)) thank you so much”

🚉 Step 4: Pickup Guidance and In-Person Recovery

Once the wallet had been confirmed, the next step was deciding how the traveler would recover it.
Because he was still in Japan, we did not need to arrange international shipping.
Instead, we prepared clear instructions so he could pick up the wallet directly from the lost & found office.

What We Shared with the Traveler

We provided the following information in English:
  • The lost item reference number
  • The name of the pickup office
  • Opening hours and closed days
  • The exact pickup location
  • A Google Maps link when useful
Since his passport and ID were inside the wallet, there was also a risk that the usual ID verification at pickup could become a problem.
To prevent confusion, we confirmed in Japanese with the office:
  • whether pickup would still be possible even though his identification was inside the lost wallet
  • how the office would handle the situation at the counter
We then shared that information clearly with the traveler.
As a result, he was able to go to the office and retrieve the wallet and all related documents before departure.
